    Farewell my brother in arms.
As founding father of the IAU. you have laid the foundation of a movement that has inspired many long distance runners worldwide.
Your yesteryears baby has meanwhile grown into a major movement and it is your merit that ultra running has gained its place within the international athletics world.

I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to work with you for so many years.
You introduced me into a world where, at that time, I was more or less still a novice.
I have learned a lot from your experience and your network, I admired your ambition and dedication and I always enjoyed your inimitable sense of typical tongue-in-cheek humor.
We didn’t always agree with each other and sometimes had differing opinions but we always had an understanding that allowed us to smooth out the rough edges, to then once again put our full efforts into the further development and growth of the IAU.

“Marvelous” was a word you often used when your comments were asked after a race. It was your habit to always conclude on a positive note, taking into account the efforts an organization had made to put an event into place, always reflecting his eternal respect to anyone who provided a contribution to the good cause.

Eventually, dear Malcolm, you have been the “marvelous” person
You can be rightly proud of what you have achieved. You where the initial trail blazer who did a tremendous and wonderful job.
As the world is constantly on the move it is inevitable that a number of things have changed after your retirement but I can truly ensure you that your ultra running inheritance is being well taken care of.

Rest In Peace, my dear friend.

    Message from Dirk Strumane,

  3. Dear Malcolm Friend!
